The quiet man of Meursault, Jean-François Germain, makes phenomenally precise and beautiful wines that are as understated as he is. Organic practices, incredibly low yields and minimal reliance on new oak are the hallmarks of this impeccable estate. A tasting with Jean-François several years ago presented us with a dizzying array of Meursault climats, but no wine was more impressive than his entry-level Bourgogne Blanc, fashioned from various declassified old vine plots. Tender, lifted, nutty (in the Meursault way) and just barely touched with the chervil greenness of youth, here's a great way to dive into the wines of one of Burgundy's true superstar growers.
