
Former physician Hélène Thibon helms the remote, west-of-the-Rhône gem of a property, Mas de Libian, creating low-intervention magic with the Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes from her boule-studded vineyard (in fact, the vineyards look more like Châteauneuf-du-Pape than western Côtes-du-Rhône). The Bout d'Zan cuvée, a Grenache-heavy offering- enriched by Syrah- offers an intriguing, plush texture and subtle aromas and flavors of anise. No fining or filtration is practiced here, so what's in the bottle is a complete and masterful wine in the condition in which it was meant to be enjoyed. Biodynamic.
