The hilltop Roussillon cru of L'Esquerde is the source of this complex and voluptuous cuvée of mostly Syrah, with equal additions of Carignan and Grenache. The cooler, slower ripening afforded by the 800 foot altitude here results in a wine of plushness that doesn't veer into the clunky, turbocharged zone that so many Roussillon wines inhabit. Honestly, this is the first wine of Chapoutier's Bila-Haut Roussillon project that's really wowed us, and we're thrilled to have come across it. Best of all, it's priced gently enough for you to enjoy on a regular basis!
