Luis Seabra is widely considered to be the most ambitious (and successful) of the "new wave" of Portuguese winemakers working in the high elevations of the Cima Corgo subzone of the Douro appellation. His "Ilimitado" wines are meant to be rough equivalents of the "Villages" wines of Burgundy, in that they blend different parcels into expressions of the mica schist soils that underlie the best vineyards of the Douro. The 2020 Xisto Ilimitado is 50% Rabigato, 20% Codega, 15% Gouveio (Godello), 10% Viosinho. 30-45 year old vines at 500-600 m (1,640 -1,968 ft) elevation. Almost all of this cuvée is raised in neutral oak and given one year of non-stirred lees contact. The result is a wine that's citrus-and-pear-flavored, with excellent minerality and length on the palate.
