Giacolino Gillardi is a Piemontese visionary, with his two biggest contributions to the region being the elevation of the Dogliani DOCG (perhaps the world's greatest appellation for Dolcetto) and the introduction of Syrah- via cuttings from his good friend, Jean-Louis Chave- and the resulting wine, the spectacular Harys. His Langhe Rosso is comprised of 70% Dolcetto and 30% Merlot from the Fiore de Harys (second wine to Harys) plot. It's both fiercely traditional in structure and body, yet forward-looking, ample on the palate and modern in its composition. Even better, all proceeds from this wine go toward Alzheimer's research and treatment efforts!
