Alberto Orte is one of Spain's great winemakers, working in multiple vineyard sites across several storied appellations. His Rioja Crianza is sourced from one of the most remote and forbidding terroirs, the north-facing Sierra de La Demanda mountains. Those north-facing slopes are far cooler than the rest of the region, slowing ripening and allowing complexity to develop. Naturally, it's also impossible to introduce mechanization and other intrusive techniques in this rugged, hardscrabble area, so everything must be done by hand. We're super-fortunate to have a bit of the excellent 2013 on hand, and it's one of our best values in aged red wine! Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha. Organic.
