We consider the under-the-radar firm of Skinner (much like Easton and Domaine de Terre Rouge) to be one of the true, original Rhône Rangers of California. Their wines are invariably true-to-type and completely expressive of their hardscrabble origins in remote El Dorado County; expect the 2019 Mourvèdre to show hints of saddle leather, black raspberry, coffee, spice and smoke. Collectors take note: Skinner's wines age impeccably, and the price alone makes these wines quite irresistible.
