The owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Aubert de Villaine, makes a Mercurey that's a perfect expression of the darker, duskier side of Pinot Noir, as befits the appellation. Of course, the challenge in 2022 was to preserve freshness and minerality, and de Villaine nailed it, as the natural richness of Mercurey is perfectly offset by a fine, persistent limestone cut.
