A memorable bottle of 2010 Cuvée des Géologues was all it took to put us onto this most savory, complex and traditional of Jura wines (which, quite frankly, is all that the venerable firm of Lucien Aviet trades in). It has an almost Burgundian texture and refinement, yet the woodsy, savory, mushroom and spice qualities- along with a fine mineral backbone- make this unmistakably Trousseau of the highest order. Interestingly, the "Cuvée des Géologues" designation is in honor of the geologists who assisted Lucien Aviet in the last 1950s in identifying the best soils in which to plant his Trousseau vines. Sustainable viticulture.
