Julien Cruchandeau's villages-level Beaune plot is at the southern end of the appellation and features 40 year-old vines planted to a substantial clay soil. Cruchandeau vinifies half of it whole-cluster and the other half completely destemmed, then ages the final assemblage twelve months on the lees in stainless steel. The direct, cherry-fruited quality of this sometimes-maligned appellation shows beautifully in a wine that also perfectly expresses the cool, aromatic qualities of the 2021 vintage. Exceptional.
