The tiny AVA of Red Hill Douglas County lies south and west of the Willamette Valley and features the same red, volcanic Jory soils as its more famous neighbor to the north. What it doesn’t have, however, are the serious heat spikes the Willamette Valley now experiences, as the appellation is truly a cool, Pacific Ocean-influenced Pinot Noir paradise.
Of course, it took no time at all for the Oregon Pinot Noir whisperer Anne Sery (Trousse-Chemise) to get her hands on some prime fruit from Red Hill and fashion a knockout, value-packed wine at a price that had us doing a double take. It’s got that cola-spicy, berry-fruited Oregon thing in a fresh, lower-alcohol, open-knit format that makes it the perfect foil for all the usual foods, including salmon off the grill.
