Buttonwood Grove’s new winemaker, Julia Alvarez-Perez, uses the same 50 year-old vine Cayuga from Cayuga Ridge Vineyard (recently purchased by Buttonwood Grove) as her own Usonia Cayuga. The contrast here is fascinating, as both wines are clearly of this exceptional vineyard, with Usonia’s being more complex and expansive and the Buttonwood Grove the more linear and thirst-inducing of the two. That Buttonwood Grove can offer this at such a reasonable price makes it a perfect choice for purchase in case lots, as it’s as good an “all purpose” dry white wine as can be found in the Finger Lakes. Sustainable viticulture.
