Slovenia's Goriška Brda region is adjacent to Friuli, and this Malvasia is naturally reminiscent of Italy's very best. It hails from a good old vines plot with marl subsoils and receives a judicious 14 days of skin contact in old acacia barrels before finishing fermentation and being put back into those barrels for nine months before bottling. The floral and subtle almond found in great Malvasia is both concentrated and lifted by the skin contact, and there's an almost Burgundian poise and equilibrium to this wine that's absolutely mesmerizing.
