Caroline Lestimé, daughter of Jean-Noël Gagnard, has ably run the domaine since 1989, and one of her best decisions was to invest heavily in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, a much cooler and higher altitude growing area of Burgundy just west of the main slope. Her investment in these cool, limestone-underpinned slopes is has really paid off in recent years, as this prime appellation is much more suited to the fickle Chardonnay grape than the hot, dry and unpredictable Côte d’Or. Lestimé’s 2023 Sous Eguisons comes in at a reasonable 12.5% alcohol and is a throwback to white Burgundy of 35-40 years ago with aromas and flavors of acacia and pain grillé. Organic.
