The virtually unknown Calabrian appellation of Lamézia is one of the first places on earth where grape cultivation and winemaking took hold. There's evidence here of Phoenecian efforts as early as 2,000 BC! But what we're interested in today are growers such as Statti, who've applied a light touch and a non-interventionist approach to fashion juicy, spicy, rich, well-colored reds that are a natural with braciole, meatballs, burgers, spiedie, red sauced pastas and other staples of the traditional Italian Sunday dinner. The grapes are Gaglioppo, Greco Nero and Magliocco. Vegan and Organic.
