Here's former Ojai cellarmaster Fabien Castel's first vintage of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir, and it's quite the effort. It's taken from two separate parcels: Drum Canyon, a south-facing slope, and Rancho San Julian, a high-elevation hillside. There's a combination of stainless steel and barrel vinification and aging here, and the result is a wine that's quite fresh and structured, while capturing the dark-fruited essence of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Given that this is Fabien's first vintage and that this is his entry-level wine, we can't wait to see what's coming next!
