The fresh, lifted Aleatico (aka Vernaccia Rosso) grape is perfectly suited to the tiny appellation of Pergola in Le Marche, and the pomegranate-scented version from Villa Ligi features secondary aromas and flavors of rose petal and hibiscus. It's a great change of pace from Pinot Noir, and it's also a wonderful example of a southern Italian red that doesn't rely on weight and power.
