Franck Peillot fashions the definitive Bugey white wine from extremely old vine (ages range from 30 to 100 years old) Altesse planted to its top cru, the sloping vineyard of Montagnieu. It's a wine of elegant texture, with aromas and flavors of wildflowers, minerals and barely ripe plums. There's an unusual weight and complexity here, as well as a tiny, unnoticeable trace of residual sugar (the appellation allows up to 8g/L, with Peillot's coming in far lower than the upper bound). We've found Peillot's Roussette du Bugey to be incredibly versatile with a range of foods and a singular value, as wines of an equivalent quality from any other region of France would cost $50-$60.
