Transplanted New Zealander Graeme Bott and his Northern Rhône native wife, Julie, are among an exciting new wave of growers in this spectacular section of the Rhône Valley. Their wines combine the best of modern technique with expressions of place and vintage that are both precise and impressively-concentrated. Their 2021 Saint-Joseph Blanc (70% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne, from granitic vineyards around the town of Chavanay) impresses, with aromas and flavors of barely-ripe plum and wildflowers. Graeme always notes that this cuvée needs a year in the bottle to really get going, and this wine is now in a great place and promises to be there for a good 8-10 years. Organic and vegan.
