Cristina Geminiani has very quietly and patiently put her Fattoria Zerbina at the very top of Romagnoli wines by fashioning direct, authentic, easy-to-drink and value-packed wines from her hillside vineyards just outside Ravenna. And in this special spot, the Sangiovese grape gives a rounder, richer, less-acidic wine than in Tuscany. This cherry-scented beauty ("ceregio" is the word for cherry in the local dialect) is just the thing for a caponata of roasted vegetables, lasagnas, anything with Bolognese, homemade tortellini, Prosciutto di Parma and pretty much any dish that hails from this incredible region.
