Celler Piñol's Garnacha comes from the Catalan appellation of Terra Alta (near both Montsant and Priorat) in the region of Tarragona, about 45 minutes from Barcelona. Celler Piñol's vineyards are at about 1,100 feet elevation, and their 20-30 year-old vines are planted to limestone subsoils. Rainfall is scarce in this region, and the warm days during growing season give us just the kind of Garnacha we love, with aromas and flavors of strawberry, raspberry, vanilla bean, baking spice and freshly ground pepper. The alcohol clocks in at 14% (our sweet spot for this grape variety), but the limestone soils give both a fine structure and refreshment on the palate for this unabashedly full-bodied treat. It's a perfect choice if you love Zinfandel, southern Rhône reds or big Malbecs. Organic and vegan.
