Canary Islands native Eduardo Torres Acosta founded his Etna winery after stints at both Andrea Occhipinti and Passopisciaro, and his Etna wines- which have to be labeled “Terre Siciliane” since they are vinified at Occhipinti- are among our very favorites. The Versante Est (eastern slopes) Carricante issues from 80 year-old vines and is bottled unfined and unfiltered after a straightforward vinification in concrete tank and élévage in tonneaux. Not surprisingly, both the concentration and length on the palate suggest a three-digit price tag, making this a great value for the serious lover of Etna wines. Organic.
