To our taste, the Tolaini Al Passo is one of the great expressions of the Super Tuscan ideal of combining Sangiovese with Bordelaise grape varieties (in this case, it's equal parts Sangio, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). The high-toned, balsamic notes of Sangiovese here are enriched and bolstered by the Merlot and Cabernet, and there's a spicy, warm overtone from a measured passage of time in new oak barrels. It's one of our best values in red wine and a great way to ease into an exploration of important Tuscan reds without breaking the bank. Organic.
