William Goldschmidt of Corzano e Paterno draws Sangiovese from three high altitude sites: restored terraces at Valgiagli (Macigno sandstone), Montefiridolfi (San Casciano Val di Pesa riverbed soils, and Rignano (Panzano schist-limestone). Elevations range from 330 to 550 meters, so the ripening is slow, even and fully lends itself to an unusually elegant expression. Whole cluster fermentation in stainless tank further enhances the spicy, aromatic qualities of this groundbreaking effort. Superb!
